Richard O'Reilly was born in Masvingo (then Fort Victoria) in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) in February 1958. He finished his schooling at Gifford Technical High School in Bulawayo in 1973 and did an apprenticeship as a Coppersmith/sheetmetalworker. In 1978, he met Hanna Adlam in Mutare whilst doing his National Service and after a whirlwind romance, got married that same year. Richard and Hanna are blessed with three children, who in turn have blessed them with five beautiful grand-daughters.

Richard and Hanna and their children emigrated to South Africa in 1989 and now live on the East Rand.
